Kim Clijsters will stay out of action for a month – Tennis News
Former world number one, Kim Clijsters, is out of action for at least four weeks. She is struggling from a severe right hip injury that was incurred during the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. The Belgian’s agent issued the following
statement on the eve of Wednesday, “Kim has got an excess of fluid in her right hip joint, which turned out to be a deep muscle tear in her hip."
It is a major blow for her fans, who have been eagerly waiting for her return ever since her blistering comeback in the season-opener at Brisbane. She performed extremely well and was rated a hot favourite contestant to defend
her title at the Australian Open in January.
She stayed out of action for a couple of months after that before returning to the tennis circuit in Miami. She could only last three rounds before the 23rd seed compatriot, Yanina Wickmayer, dumped her in straight sets.
It must be tough for her to stay fit having such an injury prone physique. She was world number one last year in February but now has slipped to the 37th rank in the world that shows her lack of participation in the
Women Tennis Association tournaments owing to several injuries. She is now 28-years-old and a lot of analyst predicted this year to be her last in the tennis world.
The statement of her agent further added, “The pain got worse during the match, making it more difficult for her to move." She was rumoured to be making a retirement statement soon but the Belgian tennis ace "vigorously denied"
all such claims and mentioned that she is all set to play for a longer period of time and has not plans of retiring at the moment.
Hopefully, she returns in the four weeks otherwise it would be difficult for her to sustain any momentum and form before the start of the year’s second Grand Slam tournament, the French Open. All Belgian tennis fanatics are having
their fingers crossed about the recovery of their champion tennis player. Clijsters will soon speak to the media members about her injury and comeback date.
