Kim Clijsters wins the WTA Championship title in Doha
The tennis ace from Belgium, Kim Clijsters has successfully snatched the Woman’s Tennis Association Championship trophy in Doha, Qatar. In the final of the event the twenty-seven years old Belgian hammered her archrival Caroline
Wozniacki.
It was a jaw dropping and stamina jolting battle of tennis between the current world number one and current world number two, which was won by the much-experienced Belgian tennis ace Kim Clijsters. The three-setter battle of tennis
was conquered by Clijsters by 6-3, 5-7 and 6-3. Clijsters was playing her first tournament after winning the US Open Grand Slam, which was held in New York in August. It is to be remembered that Clijsters has been recovering from a foot surgery and winning
a tough match against the in-form world number one is a very strong proof of Clijsters’ strong dedication and class.
On the other hand, the less experienced twenty years old Wozniacki failed to end the tennis season in a victorious way. Caroline Wozniacki has still not won a Grand Slam in her career and the WTA Championships tennis event was
considered as the biggest tennis event she wanted to win.
After winning the tournament, the Belgian seemed pretty satisfied and happy as she told the world that she is very happy that she has won the tournament as she was aiming for a strong return to the tennis court. She added that
winning a tournament against the world’s best players is not an easy task as she was not fully fit to compete, but she is overwhelmed with the success and very happy with the outcome.
Clijsters appreciated the game of Caroline Wozniacki and said that the final was no doubt disappointing for her, but she is an awesome player and has the capacity to triumph a Grand Slam. Kim was of the opinion that Caroline is
young and talented and she will get better and better in the future.
Wozniacki has recently usurped the world number one title from the American tennis superstar Serena Williams. The current year has turned out to be a good one for her as she has won six tennis events this year, but still a Grand
Slam triumph eludes her. Moreover, the Dane has not won a match against tennis veterans like Serena Williams or Kim Clijsters.
Although the final match seemed challenging and thrilling, but according to tennis critics, the Belgian dominated the court than the Dane. Clijsters played a much aggressive and powerful game than Wozniacki and the forehand shots
of the twenty-year-old seemed a little powerless.
In the match, Clijsters broke Wozniacki many times and made the current world number suffer. In the first set of the match, Caroline levelled the game at 2-2, but the Belgian recovered fast in the set and exploited the less powerful
area of Wozniacki’s game.
In the second set of the match, Wozniacki showed her class and broke Clijsters at 3-1. The Dane gave a very strong challenge and made the game tougher for the Belgian by levelling the score at 4-4 in the second set. Wozniacki served
well, clinched the second set, and levelled the match.
In the decider, Clijsters exhibited some blistering forehand shots and grasped the lead of the set tremendously. The Grand Slam winner won crucial break points and pushed her lead towards victory.
After the match, Wozniacki told the media that the tournament in Doha has been amazing for her and the victory of Clijsters was a very well deserved victory as she played a better game than she did.
