Kim Her advises Malaysian duo of Koo Kien, Tan Boon to learn from Korean doubles success
The national doubles chief coach Tan Kim Her advised Malaysian male duo Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong to learn from the supreme success of Korean pair of Lee Yong Dae and Jung Jae Sung in the All England Open.
The Men’s doubles experts Lee Yong-Jung Jae of Korea won the crown after ending an epic one hour seven minutes battle in their favour. They stamped the World Number one Chinese pair Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng with their prime tactical and technical performance.
Both the finalists took the game to new heights and that is why the Malaysian coach Kim Her to say that the duo of Koo Kien and Tan Boon need to sweat a lot if they want to raise their chances of a medal in the 2012 London Olympics.
The Coach said, “We still have a lot of work to do with Koo and Tan. The performances of the finalists showed that Koo-Tan must continue to focus on their speed and power.”
The World Number six Malaysian duo Koo Kien-Tan Boon showed some strong character in their short run in the All England Open. Their performance was stained by a red card in the pre quarter-final match against the Men’s doubles pair Hong Wei-Shen Ye from
China.
They also managed to fritter away a golden chance at 19-16 in the decisive set and failed to proceed in the quarter-finals by losing the crucial match with final figures of 21-12, 17-21 and 20-22 on the score board.
Malaysian pair of Koo Kien-Tan Boon will be hoping to learn the art of finishing the game as the duo always falters after having a good start. The doubles coach Kim Her intends to spend extra time in training sessions before the mega London Olympics.
He said, “I will have more time with them now as we have only a limited the number of tournaments. They will only compete in the Axiata Cup, India Open and Thomas Cup Finals, so we can focus on their physical training without much interruption.”
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will be looking to initiate an emergency training programme for their Men’s doubles experts. BAM’s programme for mixed doubles pairs under the supervision of Jeremy Gan has fetched the best for them in recent tourneys.
