Kim Her aims to focus on players for Thomas Cup and London Olympics – Badminton News
The sudden departure of Men’s Doubles coach Yoo Yong Sung certainly has put Malaysia’s prospects in Thomas Cup and London Olympics in danger. Thus, doubles chief coach Tan Kim Her decided to give all the attentions to national campaigners of these prestigious
events.
Former Olympic silver medallist Yong Sung was on a six-month probationary period and he unexpectedly quit from Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) coaching setup despite of getting an extension.
According to some reports, the Korean demanded better package and BAM could not meet his requirements which ultimately resulted in his departure.
However, Doubles head coach Kim Her remained silent on this issue as he stated that the matter of revised contract was between Yong Sung and national body and he knows nothing about it.
He also added that their first target is to prepare national shuttlers for coming events like Thomas Cup and London Games as after the resignation of Yong Sung the whole responsibility is on his and Pang Cheh Chang’s shoulders.
Kim Her said, “For now, it is only Pang (Cheh Chang) and me coaching the men’s doubles and we have a large number of players to cope with. Our focus now is on the players for the Thomas Cup Finals and Olympic Games.”
The Korean badminton guru was appointed last November just to train back-up shuttlers but he was also given the task to guide top Men’s Doubles team Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong but he turned his back later.
National Doubles head coach Kim Her, who recommended Yong Sung for this job, briefed that the language was main barrier which made this venture difficult for him.
He said, “We took him on to help Koo and Tan but language was a problem and he decided to focus on back-up players from the start.”
Meanwhile, the coach avoided to suggest any eligible candidate for this vacant post as he said that it’s the association who will make the decision.
However, he intends to request Women’s doubles coach Chong Kien Ling to shoulder the responsibility for the time being.
Moreover, it is also said that BAM is toying with the idea to appoint former international player Razif Sidek.
