Kim Her believes Chong Wei’s presence has positive effect on Thomas Cup squad
Doubles chief coach of Malaysia Tan Kim Her is happy with Lee Chong Wei’s arrival in Guangzhou training camp as he stated that the maestro has really boosted the confidence of the Thomas Cup squad.
The esteemed team event will be in full swing from May 20 in Wuhan, China and Malaysia sent its campaigners, a week before its start to have a joint training session in Guangzhou.
World Number one shuttler Chong Wei could not leave with his compatriots on May 13 due to fever and joined them two days ago.
However, the coach Kim Her believes even his delayed arrival really charged the other Malaysian shuttlers as they saw their skipper giving a strong statement about his fitness by sweating hard in the nets.
He said, “Chong Wei arrived on Wednesday and headed straight for training. Today, he joined the players for another good workout. He is in good condition and his presence has certainly lifted team spirits.”
Apart from Chong Wei, the remaining shuttlers in training camp were Daren Liew, Hafiz Hashim, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, and Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah along with the back-up players Chong Wei Feng and Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong.
Malaysian squad has finished its training sessions and now they will arrive in Wuhan on Friday, May 18.
The badminton guru Kim Her is giving all the attention to his shuttler as he refused to react on allegations from former coach Yoo Yong Sung who blamed Kim Her for not giving him proper opportunity to train the prime shuttlers.
The head coach said, “I have no comment. I would rather focus on giving my best to handle the team at the Thomas Cup Finals.”
According to draw, Malaysia has got place in Group C with South Africa and Denmark. Their first opponent in the tournament will be an inexperienced African side on May 21 but real challenge awaits them in second group match when they are going to face the
Danes on very next day.
Malaysia has set a realistic target of semi-finals and they stand chance to hit the mark only if they finish group stage as winners which will ensure an easy draw for them in quarter-finals of the event.
