Kim Her believes young Men’s Doubles experts will raise country’s flag in near future
Doubles head coach of Malaysia Tan Kim Her thinks country’s future in badminton is safe as he gave his vote of confidence to young and talented Men’s Doubles experts Ow Yao Han-Chooi Kah Ming and Nelson Heg-Teo Ee Yi.
Both pairs hold the honour of being World Junior Doubles Champions and Kim Her believes that after getting enough exposure they will make their mark at senior level as well.
The badminton guru admitted that they are not expecting much from them in this season but he put great responsibility on youngsters’ shoulders by hoping that they will show steady progress this year to prove their guts in the arena.
He said, “Both pairs are still very young. It will definitely be some time before they start getting some results. Hopefully in a year’s time they will become one of the top pairs.”
The twosome of Yao Han and Kah Ming wore Junior World Champion crown back in 2009 and they were declared as future hope of Malaysia but unfortunately they fell prey to injuries one after other.
However, they opened doors to success with solid knocks in 2012 Axiata Cup and Malaysia Open GP Gold where they proved their mettle in front of top national and international campaigners.
Similarly, current World Junior Champion duo Nelson-Ee Yi registered their presence at senior level by securing honour in the Dutch International two months back.
Now, both spirited couples have been fielded in Thailand Open and national Doubles chief coach wants them relish this opportunity by playing without any pressure.
However, Kim Her is expecting them to show their class by delivering couple of stunners against top ranked contenders in Bangkok.
He said, “For this tournament, all I want is for them to play to their best potential and score an upset or two against players who are ranked higher. It will be a good experience for them.”
It will be an uphill task for youngsters as many world class shuttlers are participating in this Grand Prix Gold event to have a good practice run before the 2012 London Olympics.
The Malaysian duo Nelson-Ee Yi will have to surpass opponents like Huang Po Jui-Liao Min Chu, Gideon Markus Fernaldi-Agripinna Rahmanto Putra while Yao Han-Kah Ming will face Terry Yeo-Liu Yi and Ricky Karanda Suwardi-Mohd Ullinuha in their way to glory.
