Kim Her decides to try V Shem, Khim Wah in semi-finals of Axiata Cup – Badminton News
The doubles head coach of Malaysia Tan Kim Her decided to give his Men’s doubles experts Goh V Shem and Lim Khim Wah a chance in Axiata Cup semi-finals, starting from March 30, 2012.
The miserable performance from Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong in the group match, against reserved players of Indonesia, made the coach to try new partnership of V Shem-Khim Wah in first leg of semi-finals.
The World Number 29 pair V Shem-Khim Wah will have to sweat hard to surpass relatively superior opponents as Indonesia will either field the World Number six duo of Mohammad Ahsan-Bona Septano or reigning Olympic champions Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan.
The World Number eight duo Kien Keat-Boon Heong knelt down against Angga Pratama-Rian Agung Saputra which resulted in Indonesia Rajawali’s 2-1 victory over Malaysia Tigers.
But the coach Kim Her said that their failure has no connection with his decision as he is fielding V Shem-Khim Wah just to give them a chance to gain some experience.
He said, "They are being rested so as to give V Shem-Khim Wah the experience playing against stronger Indonesian pairs. Both the Indonesian pairs are top class and it will be a good test for them. If they win, it will boost their confidence."
The Men’s doubles experts V Shem and Khim Wah will also participate in Thomas Cup finals as second doubles team of Malaysia so they will definitely put their best in first leg of semi-finals to boost their confidence for the prestigious event.
The doubles chief coach Kim Her believes this opportunity will help the scratch pair to elevate their skills for the coming series of international badminton events.
The coach said, "V Shem-Khim Wah will not be available for the match on Sunday as they will be competing in the Australia Open Grand Prix Gold next week and this is another reason I decided to give them a chance."
However, the duo Kien Keat-Boon Heong will replace them in second leg and try to revive their old form.
The top Malaysian pair is scheduled to participate in India Open, Thomas Cup finals and Indonesia Open before the London Olympics in July.
