Kim Her expects his players to excel Danes in group stage of Thomas Cup 2012
Malaysia may have a relatively weak Thomas Cup squad but its Doubles head coach Tan Kim Her is still confident that national shuttlers will rise against Denmark in group match on May 22, 2012.
Thomas Cup Finals will be in full swing from May 20 in Wuhan, China and all superpowers of badminton world are going to grace the event with their presence.
Malaysia has been ranked low in this event as placed in Group C with South Africa and Denmark but if it comes at top position in group stages it will really help to make into top four teams of the event.
In its second group match, Men’s Singles skipper Lee Chong Wei will open the marathon by facing veteran Dane Peter Hoeg Gade and the coach Kim Her believes if the maestro paves his path to victory then his team will also follow the successful trail.
He said, "Lee Chong Wei should seal the first singles while Boon Heong-Thien How have a good chance of beating Petersen-Rasmussen and this will take the match into the deciding third singles where Hafiz Hashim must deliver a point."
Meanwhile, Kim Her is set to experiment with his Doubles teams as he intends to introduce a unique combination Tan Boon Heong-Thien How and he is hoping that this lateral thinking will fetch the best result.
However, he added that this will only happen if his shuttlers give a positive response to this call.
He said, "I am not going to decide this alone but will also speak to the players if they are willing to take the risk. We have to see how our combinations shape up."
The badminton guru was bit cautious about national number two Daren Liew as he admitted that the young shuttler lacks consistency but in same breath he also hoped that the presence of seasoned shuttler like Hafiz Hashim will make the difference.
Now it is a must-win situation for Malaysia as failure will pit them against top ranked countries like China and Korea in knock out round which will bury their hopes to make into semi-finals of prestigious team event.
