Kim Her intends to field Zakry, Fairuz as reserve Doubles team in Thomas Cup Finals
The Doubles chief coach of Malaysia, Tan Kim Her is toying with idea to field the duo of Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif and Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari as the reserve Doubles team in Thomas Cup finals which will be in full swing in Wuhan, China from May 20, 2012.
Malaysia will bank on their top pairs Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Goh V. Shem-Lim Khim Wah in Men’s Doubles event but a single spot of reserve team is yet to be occupied and the duo of Zakry-Fairuz is a strong contender to win this seat.
World Number 62 pair has represented Malaysia in previous editions of the Thomas Cup and the coach Kim Her believes if they show strong character in coming events they can be used as back-up couple in 2012 edition of this esteemed team event.
He said, "Zakry-Fairuz have played in the Thomas Cup before so if they can prove their worth, they will be considered. We also have other choices in the national squad and I will monitor their performance in coming tournaments before making the choice."
The national squad will be announced after Asian Badminton Championships and the India Open. The Malaysian shuttlers will sweat hard to prove their worth in these events as selectors will be giving special attention to these tournaments.
Doubles chief coach Kim Her admitted that he will be watching his players’ performance closely as they still have plenty of time to finalise the squad. He stated that chance is open for every couple and Zakry-Fairuz can make it after some strong knocks.
He said, "We still have a few weeks before naming the squad and I will monitor the performance of all the players. Even Zakry-Fairuz can make it to the squad."
The badminton guru Kim Her came up with some unique combinations after his make-break pair exercise few months back and he surprised everyone with his decision to field scratch pair Hoon Thien How-Teo Kok Siang in Thomas Cup qualifiers.
However, this time Zakry-Fairuz may get a chance as other two available couples, Thien How-Wee Kiong and Mak Hee Chun-Teo Kok Siang, do not have much experience to compete in prestigious team event like the Thomas Cup.
