Kim Her intends to field scratch pair against Denmark in Thomas Cup Finals – Badminton Update
It seems Doubles head coach of Malaysia Tan Kim Her will leave no stone unturned to secure a win over Denmark as he showed intentions to try a new combination in group match of Thomas Cup Finals on May 22, 2012.
Malaysia has sure spot in quarter-finals as its first win over South Africa will cement its spot in top eight teams but an opening round success against high ranked Denmark will boost confidence of its campaigners.
The badminton guru Kim Her believes that they stand good chance to stun their opponents if a scratch partnership is introduced as the Danes will not have any pre-game strategy against scratch pair.
He said, "It will be 50-50 in both doubles if we clash with Denmark with our normal order but we have a good chance to steal a point if we play a scratch pair."
National number one pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong has been bit off track for last one year and the coach is still not sure to field them as first Doubles couple in Thomas Cup as he stated that the duo got pale in front of Danish campaigners in the past.
Kim Her is toying with the idea to try second top pair Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah against the twosome of Boe and Mogensen as he thinks that pressure will be on higher ranked opposing team.
He said, "We need to win the match and fielding scratch combinations is an option. Kien Keat-Boon Heong's form has not been good against Boe-Mogensen but V Shem-Khim Wah might play without pressure against the top Danish pair."
Doubles chief coach is also thinking of having a make-break pair exercise as he admitted that there is possibility of Boon Heong joining hands with Hoon Thien How and Kien Keat teaming up with Goh V Shem.
However, Kim Her also briefed that nothing has been decided yet as they still have more than a week to finalise their strategy and if World Number eight duo Kien Keat-Boon Heong stays confident to face the Danish challengers then they will open the marathon.
Men’s Doubles point will play crucial role in this must-win contest as Malaysian maestro Lee Chong Wei will easily clinch first Men’s Singles game but other shuttlers might face trouble to hit the mark.
