Kim Her plays down Kien Keat-Boon Heong’s chances in London Olympics – Badminton news
The Malaysian doubles head coach Tan Kim Her played down the duo of Kien Keat-Boon Heong, chances to make into the top four for London Olympics 2012.
Only top four doubles teams of the world will be awarded seeding in the mega event and World Number six Malaysian duo has very low chances to topple World Number four duo Ko Sung Hyun-Yoo Yeon Seong of South Korea in this seeding race even if they win the
All England Open and the upcoming India Open.
Kim Her dismissed all the hopes and directed them to put a good fight at least in All England.
He said, “Kien Keat-Boon Heong cannot return to the top four anymore even if they win the All England and India Open and qualifying at sixth or 16th position doesn't make a difference in the Olympics. I just want them to put up a quality performance in the
All England.”
However, the coach is hoping that the pair will pave its path to quarter-final in All England Open.  Kim Her does not seem to be bothered with victory or defeat and expects that they will rise on their toes against the World Number 2 Korean pair Jung Jae
Sung-Lee Yong Dae.
He said, “If they can beat a higher ranked pair like Jae Sung-Yong Dae in the All England, it's good for them. I can accept it if they lose to the Koreans but they must put up a good fight.”
Their failure in All England will not break any heart as they have been given instructions to set focus on the London Olympics, starting from July.
Kim Her admitted that the duo Kien Keat-Boon Heong has a relaxing tournament schedule just to sweat more in the preparations for the mega event.
The coach said, “This is the reason their competition schedule is not tight as they will only compete in the Thomas Cup Finals in May, Indonesia Open in June and maybe in the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold (in May).”
The Thomas Cup finals are going to be a test case for the Malaysian pair as it will be a curtain raiser to their performance in London Olympics.
For now, they have been subjected to a tough trial in the All England Open where they need to surpass the Japanese danger Naoki Kawamae-Shoji Sato and the Chinese couple Hong Wei-Shen Ye, who has just thrashed World Number four Sung Hyun-Yeon Seong in German
Open last week.
