Kim Her still believes he made right decision to scratch Doubles teams against Denmark
Doubles head coach of Malaysia, Tan Kim Her did experiment with his squad against Denmark which did not yield desired results but he firmly believes that he made right move to excel in Thomas Cup Finals 2012.
The badminton guru played make-break couple game in the crucial group match and introduced unique combinations of Tan Boon Heong-Hoon Thien How and Koo Kien Keat-Goh V Shem.
Kim Her had to face the music later as both transformed couples failed to rise against their Danish challengers and cost a vital ranking point.
However, Kim Her defended his decision and stated that it was done just to elevate chances of success but luck was not on their side this time so they failed to make the best out of it.
He said, “We decided to scratch the pairs so that we would have an equal chance in both the first and second doubles. Unfortunately, things did not go our way. We took a gamble. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.”
On the other hand, the Men’s Singles campaigners Daren Liew and Hafiz Hashim performed beyond expectations and locked two valuable points for the team.
Malaysia was inches away from victory but first Doubles tie triggered the collapse when Boon Heong-Thien How knelt down against Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen after a futile exercise.
Later, the second Doubles tie also belonged to Denmark when partnership of Kien Keat and V Shem could not flourish in front of Jonas Rasmussen-Joachim Fischer Nielsen.
Kim Her thinks Malaysian pairs could not discover their bond and committed some technical mistakes which ultimately paved path to success for Danish challengers.
He said, “Our first pair gave their best but the Danish combination was more experienced. Our service return let us down. Kien Keat-V Shem also tried their best but Denmark’s second pair surprised us with a good performance.”
Malaysia frittered away the opportunity to become group winner and now they will be up against the top favourite China in the quarter-final round of the event.
Meanwhile, the coach intends to continue this exercise and if players are comfortable with it then they will try these combinations also in next stage of Thomas Cup Finals.
