Women’s Singles expert Kim Ji Eun played impeccable badminton and gained access to the main round of Korea Grand Prix Gold after beating Yoo Da Jung in the qualifying round on December 4, 2012.
This match was played at Lee Yong Dae stadium and both native shuttlers remained head-to-head for 34 minutes while piling up final figures of 23-21 and 21-19.
The battle heated up straight away as both compatriot players made every effort to gain an early advantage.
However, Ji Eun displayed superior finishing skills and locked the honour by claiming two consecutive match points.
Initially, she kept a low profile and kept trailing behind her rival on the points table. She remained at the lower end in the establishing rallies and allowed her competitor to enjoy an upper hand.
However, she did not take much time to gather pace and counter-balanced the situation with a couple of consecutive points.
Ji Eun played with great precision and managed to finish the first half of the set with a respectable score position.
Latter part of the game kept the audience intact until final moments as both contenders strived hard to oust the opponent.
The young Korean campaigner Da Jung prevailed in few rallies without any interruption and tipped the scale in her favour.
She maintained a decent lead until the third quarter of the set but then a few back-to-back mistakes triggered the collapse.
Ji Eun did not squander this opportunity and swept the table with a significant margin of 23-21. She established a psychological edge by winning this opening game and started the following set in high spirits.
She displayed elevated craft and kept her challenger busy just in returning her mastery crafted strokes.
At the one-minute interval, she was in a commanding position with an indomitable figure of 11 but then next couple of rallies saw her dropping some valuable points in a row.
However, Ji Eun managed to reinstate her dominance when it was needed the most and sealed a splendid straight-set victory with 21-19 score.
Now she will lock horns with the Canadian shuttler Christin Tsai in main round of this GP Gold event.
