Kim Ki Jung, Kim Sa Rang make a way into pre quarter-final round – Korea Open Update
Men’s Doubles partners Kim Ki Jung and Kim Sa Rang forged a fruitful chemistry and powered their way to the pre quarter-final round of Korea Grand Prix Gold on Wednesday, December 5, 2012.
They were up against the Malaysian duo Mohd Lutfi Zaim Abdul Khalid-Kok Siang Teo in the opening round and this encounter kept them busy on court for two exhausting sets.
The top seeded Korean pair Ki Jung-Sa Rang, currently World Number six, employed unbeatable strategy and wrapped this showdown with a favourable result of 21-12 and 21-16.
They made their intentions clear straight away in the beginning of first set when they clinched valuable points in a row.
With such a power packed start, they put the opposing team under huge pressure and then made best out of this psychological edge to strengthen their grip.
The twosome of Lutfi Zaim and Kok Siang looked completely confused in the establishing rallies as both partners kept on making fatal mistakes and allowed their rivals to establish a comfortable lead.
Meanwhile, Ki Jung and Sa Rang did not lose focus and piled up a significant margin of 11 before the announcement of break.
After the one-minute interval, the Korean campaigners geared up themselves and left their challengers far behind with a notable difference.
They maintained a ten-point advantage until the final moments and swept the table with 21-12 score.
However, they had to put an extra effort to oust the opponents in second set as Lutfi Zaim-Kok Siang showed a transformed character and stopped this contest from being a one-sided affair.
The Malaysian shuttlers played with positive approach in the beginning and gained a decent lead. They silenced the local crowd with their thundering performance and it was felt that they will easily take this match into third set.
At this stage, Ki Jung and Sa Rang displayed great fighting spirit and turned the tables with a staggering knock.
They bagged most of the ending points and sealed a splendid straight-set win with 21-16 score on the board.
This impressive success escorted them to the pre quarter-final round where another lower ranked duo Mohd Razif Abdul Latif-Jagdish Singh is waiting for them.
