Kim Kyung-tae, Shingo Katayama share the lead at Token Homemate Cup – Japan Tour
The Token Homemate Cup of the Japan Tour started at the par-71 Token Tado Country Club on Thursday.
Kim Kyung-tae and Shingo Katayama shared the top spot of the leader board at the end of the first day of the four-day event.
Both the players had a score of six-under par, 65 on the first day. They have a lead of just one shot over their nearest competitors.
Kim played well during the day. He looked in exquisite touch with his iron and was putting well on the greens. He was bogey free for the first round as he had six birdies marked on his score card. The first four birdies came on the front nine and had only
two on the back nine.
The 24-year-old Kim was putting in great style on the greens. Some of his shots were simply amazing as they landed inside a couple of feet from the holes. The youngster hopes to continue his swing momentum in the next three rounds to win the championship.
On the other hand, Katayama is an experienced player and knows about the course. It was his experience which paid him off on the first day.
With a score of six-under par, he already looks in great touch to win this tournament. He has an eagle and four birdies on his card after the day ended.
Kunihiro Kamii and S.K. Ho are placed at the third position of the leader board. They are just one stroke behind the leaders and had a score of five-under par, 66.
Ho was brilliant with his putting on the first day. He only made 26 putts in the first round which is impressive. The veteran had five birdies on his score card and did not make a single bogey for the round. He is a seasoned campaigner and has been playing
on the Japanese Tour for quite some time now. This is a good opportunity for him to maintain his birdie momentum and win the tournament on Sunday.
The second round of the tournament will be starting on Friday. All the tied players will be eyeing the top spot on the leader board on the second day. Let’s see how it unfolds.
