Kim Littlejohn confident of the new selection system in New Zealand Cricket – Cricket News Update
Kim Littlejohn, the new Kiwi head of selectors, is confident with the selection system in place, which sees him relying on the expertise of the associate coaches in picking up young talents for the national team.
The former 'Bowls Australia' high performance manager is part of a new look structure for the Kiwis, which is initiated by their Director of Cricket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Marshall-Buchanan-c68302.
Under the system, only Littlejohn and head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Geoffrey-Wright-c67883 will have a say in the selection process, with the final verdict entirely in the hands of the coach.
While Wright will select the final XI, while Littlejohn will take feedback from association coaches who will report to him regarding the provincial young talents on display. The process, though complicated, is a positive experiment to ensure radical, but
positive changes in NZ cricket.
"I'm very confident [it will work]," Littlejohn said. "In some cases you'd obviously expect the major association coaches to put forward their players but I think there are some checks and balances in the system, where it's not just one coach's view, we're
looking at the views of six coaches on a particular player.”
He further added, “That will make sure we get a good open and honest opinion on any particular player that we might be looking at."
With the new selector having limited knowledge of the current Kiwi contingent, it was a surprise when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Maitland-Turner-c60187.
With many criticizing his appointment, it certainly is a positive call as far as the previous 12 months in Kiwi’s cricket are concerned, which saw them failing to register any wins in Test matches.
The experimental process has its reservations, but with the next World Cup being co-hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, it will give the method ample time to ensure stability and consistency to see the Black Caps move ahead in a positive direction.
For now onwards, Littlejohn aims to watch more of domestic cricket to get to terms with the NZ setup and his new role.
