Kim Ye Ji outshines Maziyyah Nadhir in Women’s Singles pre quarter-finals – Korea Open Update
Women’s Singles shuttler Kim Ye Ji grabbed all the attentions by qualifying for the quarter-final round of Korea Grand Prix Gold after beating Maziyyah Nadhir in a second round match on December 6, 2012.
This epic tussle prolonged to three exhausting sets as both contenders challenged each other in all areas of the game before ending this showdown with 21-17, 13-21 and 21-13 result.
The lower ranked but talented Korean player had a huge support of local badminton lovers and she made best out of this psychological edge to seal splendid win.
She proved her worth in the opening and ending segments whereas the opposing shuttler could pocket only the second match point.
Ye Ji started the ball rolling straight away in the beginning of first set and maintained that rhythm all the way to final moments of this crucial game.
She established a strong grip by prevailing in the establishing rallies and then doubled the impact with couple of back-to-back points.
At the mid-game break, she was enjoying a significant lead with figure of 11 and this advantage helped her to keep the opposing shuttler at lower end also in the second half.
Though, the Indonesian campaigner strived hard to tip the scale in her favour but she had to surrender after reading 17-21 score on the board.
However, Maziyyah did not remain grounded permanently and made amends in very next game.
This time she employed unusual tactics and confounded the native shuttler. She stood tall in the pressure situation and silenced the crowd with a thundering performance.
In first half of the set, Ye Ji showed some spark but she failed to carry this momentum and allowed her competitor to come back.
Maziyyah did not squander this counterattack opportunity and won this crucial set with a notable difference in 21-13 margin.
With both contenders standing equal in the match score position, third set became consequential and the spectators were expecting lot of fireworks in this segment.
However, it proved a dead contest as the Korean female shuttler swept the table with an impressive result of 21-13.
Now Ye Ji will lock horns with her compatriot player Kim Soo Jin in the quarter-final round of this GP Gold event.
