Is that brilliant or just a statistic?

Kinda impressive race speed though.

If only he could qualify as fast.

  1. I think it is a statistic and maybe a meaningless one at that.  As rosbif said, Kimi has nearly twice as many fast laps as poles.  He isn't that fast when one lap pace counts, i.e. qualifying.

Fangio, Stewart, Lauda, Prost and Schumacher all had fast race pace, but they were not necessarily fastest over one lap.  Prost was certainly slower than Senna over a single qualifying lap, but I think Prost probably had better race pace.

Also, fast laps are often set when the race is effectively over, the leader is coasting home and someone in 2nd or 3rd place takes advantage of low fuel and good track conditions.

In '88 and '89, Senna and Prost drove identical cars.  Senna had 3 FLs and Prost had 5 (but he didn't win 4 of those 5 races he set FL).  For '88, Senna had 3 FL and Prost 7.

  2. yes thats why i always support Michael Schumacher and Ferrari they know how to turn up the heat.ist of all Kimi wouldnt listen to Michael like Felipe but he does now. has Kimi knows Ferrari is the best team in F1. and he is getting treated much better than he did at Mclarens. Ron Dennis hasnt got any feelings for any drivers, but Mr Jean Todt and Ferrari they are fair to there drivers.make the most of it, i was told Kimi is leaving Ferrari next season he is quitting F1 for good.

  3. Well, the all-time record is 7 consecutive, by Ascari in 1952/53. Apart from him, only Schumacher (2004) and Raikkonen (2008) have ever got to 5 (Raikkonen also being in a group of drivers who managed 4 consecutive fastest laps - he did that in 2005). That makes it a brilliant statistic in my book, mind you all the top 3 of all time in this list did their feat in a dominant Ferrari.

Raikkonen's quite the oppsoite kind of driver to Senna, for example: Senna only had 19 fastest laps in his entire career, to go with 65 poles, compared to Raikkonen's 16 poles & 30 fls.

  4. impressive isn't he?now if only he could shake off some of that bad luck that seems to be following him every time he is leading a race!! I swear, somebody must have put a voodoo hex on him
