Kimi Räikkönen will not drive for Renault next season
Kimi Räikkönen has ruled out a move to drive for Renault next year.
Räikkönen left Formula One to take part in rallying this season after leaving Ferrari. It had previously been revealed that the 2007 world champion had been in contact with Renault, and team principal Eric Boullier said he was going to meet with the Finn to discuss a possible move.
Boullier said Räikkönen’s interest was down to “showing that the work we've done this season is noticed and that we are considered a challenger for the championship in the future.”
Renault supporters will be disappointed though because Räikkönen has now said he will not be making a return to Formula One, and has accused Renault of using his name for their own benefits. “I am very disappointed with the way they have used my name for their own marketing,” said Räikkönen.
Räikkönen has been driving for Citroën in rallying, and reports suggest he will stay in rallying for another season. “I have never seriously considered driving for Renault, and I can assure you one hundred percent that I will not drive for Renault next year. My managers have weeks ago been in contact, once, with Renault's team leader [Eric Boullier]. That is all,” he added.
