Kimi Raikkonen aims to fight for the championship title – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen thinks that he can still win the championship title and asserted that he is going to fight for it until the end of 2012 Formula 1 season.
Raikkonen is presently standing at third place in the drivers’ standings and has performed tremendously well in the season until now. He has been considered as one of the most competent title contenders because of his extraordinary talent and skills.
The Finnish driver is currently ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and is behind his main rival, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who had been at the top of drivers’ standings for most of the time in this season.
Even though, he is 48 points behind Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who is leading the drivers’ championship after claiming his third consecutive victory in the Korean Grand Prix. Nevertheless, he is targeting to fight for the title and is eagerly looking
forward to close the gap to the defending champion in the remainder of the season.
Furthermore, he said that they need to work at their best so as to come up with the necessary developments in their car to attain competitive results in the remaining four races of the ongoing season. In addition, he expressed that he is well aware of the
fact that it will be very difficult to catch Vettel, nonetheless, he said that they are pushing really hard to win the championship battle.
“There's no point setting targets - we just need to keep working as hard as we can to score strong points and see what happens from there,” Raikkonen said. “In terms of the Championship, the gap to Sebastian is quite big now so it will be very difficult
to catch him, but we'll keep pushing all the way.”
Besides, he said that he is fully motivated for the forthcoming races and is hoping to attain promising results for his team.
“We have to keep working hard and keep a high level of motivation. Personally I feel my own motivation is very high like it has always been. I'm keen to get the best results I can,” he added.
