Kimi Raikkonen aims to perform exceptionally well in Monaco – Formula 1 News
Lotus driver, Kimi Raikkonen, has said that they are not quite happy at the moment as they are not leading the championship, but are looking forward to perform well in the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix to make
their position stronger in the title fight.
Raikkonen is currently standing at second place in the drivers’ championship with 85 points. Besides, he is ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari and just 4 points behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel
of Red Bull Racing.
He didn’t express contentment over his current position in the championship but asserted that he is hopeful for the title as there are a lot of races yet to come in the season ahead. In addition, he said
that he is keen to see what happens at Circuit de Monaco this year.
“Well, we're not in first place so we can't be too happy,” Raikkonen said. “For sure it's not a nightmare, but we've still got a lot of races yet to come and anything can happen in Formula 1. Monaco's a
different challenge, so we'll have to see what happens there this year.”
Additionally, he expressed that every race is important in the championship fight. However, he said that racing in the streets of Monte Carlo is really special as compared to other races in the F1 calendar.
“It's useless to put races in different categories, because all of them are as important as each other if you want to win a Championship. However, as a real special race there is nothing like Monaco; there
is no better feeling than to get things going well there,” he added.
The Finnish driver has performed impressively well in the season until now. He claimed an incredible victory in the season-opener at Albert Park in Melbourne after qualifying for 7th grid
slot. Although, he struggled a little bit with his pace after securing 7th place finish in Malaysia, he came back really strong and managed to score second podium finish in the last three grands prix.
It will be exciting to see how the 2007 world champion performs in the upcoming race.
