Kimi Raikkonen aims to secure podium finish in 2012 German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that he is aiming to secure a podium finish in 2012 German Grand Prix which is to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22.
Raikkonen secured fifth place finish in the British GP at Silverstone Circuit after setting off from 6th grid position. However, he is not feeling completely satisfied with the result of the last race and has asserted that they should try their
best to at least finish amongst the top three in the forthcoming race.
Moreover, he said that the track conditions of the upcoming race will hopefully suit their car and will provide them a competitive edge over the other contenders.
“We've got a good car, we understand the tyres quite well, we've shown that we can be fast and race well... there's no reason why we shouldn't be fighting for another podium. Some hot weather would be good. Usually in Hockenheim it has been a very hot and
everybody has had problems with the tyres going off. Obviously, for us, the hot weather suits the car fine. Our car prefers the hot temperatures and in the long runs it's not that hard on tyres. Let's have some real summer weather in Hockenheim,” he said.
Presently, he is standing at fifth place in the drivers’ championship with 83 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and behind Lewis Hamilton of McLaren.
Furthermore, his best performance in the season so far was his second podium finish, in the fourth race which was held at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, which he secured after taking a start from 11th grid position.
In addition, he secured an impressive third podium finish in the Spanish GP held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona after starting from 4th grid slot. Besides, he delivered an inspiring performance and secured second podium finish in the European
GP at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain after beginning from 5th place in the grid.
Over and above, he has performed quite convincingly in the season so far and it will be interesting to see how the Finnish driver performs in the approaching races.
