Kimi Raikkonen appreciates that Lotus does not get involved in politics – Formula 1 news
Kimi Raikkonen has appreciated his team, Lotus F1, for being more interested in racing than getting involved in politics with other F1 teams.
“I always said that this is a bit of a different team to the others that I raced for before,” Raikkonen said. “It's all about racing and less about politics and I think that's a good thing for the whole team.”
The Finnish driver said that the performance has been good this year but you always want to do more.
He added, “When you start doing a few good results you expect to do even better, but it's not been easy and we've been quite consistent - not strong always - but we've been consistent and that kept us in the championship for a long time and brought us many
points.”
He said that he is sure if the team had started the season more strongly, they would have made it to the fight for the championship. Raikkonen added that he is hoping the team will be strong enough in the next season to take it to the championship level.
He stated that he is familiar with the sport and finding the right team with the right car makes it a lot easier for you. He hinted that many things can change next year and in order to progress, the team needs to improve the car.
Raikkonen had made a comeback into F1 after two years this season. In the past, he has been targeted with criticism for losing interest but his return has proved positive things about him. The driver has had a very consistent season; he completed all the
twenty races on the calendar and scored points in nineteen of them. His win at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was phenomenal and has quieted down the critics. This was Lotus F1’s first win since the 1987 Detroit GP that was won by the late Ayrton Senna. He ended
the season with a third place in the drivers’ standings.
F1 expert, Johnny Herbert, has also predicted that Raikkonen will be a strong threat for other drivers during the next season.
