Kimi Raikkonen believes Lotus can still win in remainder of 2012 – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen believes that they can still score a race win in the remainder of the 2012 Formula 1 season regardless of Red Bull Racing’s dominance in the last few races.
The Enstone based team has been deemed as one of the most competitive contenders in this year’s championship fight and has performed quite convincingly in the season so far. However, they have not been able to claim any victory until now.
Raikkonen asserted that he was really upset over the result of the Indian Grand Prix as his car was competent enough to win.
“I really thought that I had the speed in the car last race and that's why I was very disappointed in my decision to change the car,” Raikkonen said.
Moreover, he said that he struggled during the qualifying of the preceding race and failed to secure a higher grid slot due to which he could not attain the desired result.
Nonetheless, he said that they are not feeling disappointed and are looking forward to resolve the ongoing problems so as to come up stronger in the remaining three grands prix of the current season. Besides, he said that they are capable enough of winning
a race in the season ahead.
“So that's why it was more disappointing, but that's how it goes and I think if we can hopefully improve the car a bit here and get everything right and not make any mistakes in qualifying or other things, maybe with a little bit of luck as well, I don't
see a reason why we still couldn't win the race,” he added.
At present, the Finnish driver is standing at third place in the drivers’ championship. Furthermore, he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull and is behind his main opponent, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
Although, he is 67 points behind the leading driver, Sebastian Vettel of the Milton Keynes based team, but he is still targeting to fight for the championship title as it is mathematically possible.
Let’s see how the 2007 world champion performs in the forthcoming races and whether he will be able to close the gap to Vettel or not.
