Kimi Raikkonen believes Lotus has the potential to improve in remainder of the season – Formula 1
Kimi Raikkonen has said that luck is not a factor that Lotus has not been able to win a race in the season so far.
Lotus has shown great improvement over their 2011 campaign and has shown that they have the potential to challenge the front runners of the season.
So far the two Lotus drivers Raikkonen and his team-mate Romain Grosjean have come up with good performances in the season. Both drivers have been able to get six podiums in total in the season, four from Raikkonen and two from Grosjean but have no wins
to show for their good performances.
“Luck is nothing to do with it,” said Raikkonen. “It's not unlucky if something goes wrong, it's because we did something wrong ourselves. If something breaks, it means somewhere there has been a mistake with a part or whatever it is, so it's not strong
enough or has been designed wrong.”
“Normally it's human error. It's the same as if I do a mistake in the car; it's not unlucky, it's my mistakes. That's racing,” he added.
Raikkonen said that the team can be better, but it can also be a lot worse. It is always easy to say that a team should win or do better in certain races, but the fact is that when you have to make decisions you try to do the best possible job that you can
do.
He added that sometimes it work and sometime it does not but it is a learning curve for the team.
Lotus has learned a lot from the first part of the season and the team is continuing to learn. Raikkonen reckons that the team is working hard to do better in the second half of the season. He admitted that he is not sure if the team will be able to perform
any better than it is at the moment but he says that he is confident of putting in the effort to do better.
It will be interesting to see how Lotus fare as the season progresses. At the moment Lotus is placed fourth in the Constructors Championship behind Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren.
