Kimi Raikkonen claims he has an unfinished business in Singapore – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen claims that he has an unfinished business in Singapore as he has never been able to score even a single point at Marina Bay Street Circuit in his Formula 1 career so far.
Raikkonen said that he has participated twice in the Singapore GP but has not scored any points in it as he had a collision in 2008 due to which he came down to 15th place and could only secure 10th position in 2009 when only top eight
positions were awarded points.
Therefore, the 2007 world champion has said that he is eagerly waiting for the race ahead so as to score some competitive points.
“I have some unfinished business after my two GPs there so far, as I have never scored a point,” said Raikkonen. “That doesn't mean I'm not quick there as I've been told I still hold the lap record from 2008. I crashed while fighting for fifth place that
year and finished down in tenth in 2009, so I want better this time.”
In addition, he said that he his target is to secure his 7th podium finish of the ongoing season in the forthcoming race. Furthermore, he said that they have been able to get the most out of their development process this year and are planning
to carry on achieving more in the approaching races.
“Obviously, the podium is a target again. We have had six podiums so far and scored as many points as the top guys in last few races. Hopefully we are able to carry on in the next races, too,” the Finn added.
The Finnish driver has been eyed as one of the most competent title contenders in this year’s championship as he has performed amazingly well in the season until now.
Presently, he is standing at third place in the drivers’ championship and is just a point behind Lewis Hamilton of McLaren.
Even though, he is 38 points behind the leading driver, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, nonetheless, he is confidently looking forward to close the gap to the front in the remaining races.
