Kimi Raikkonen disappointed at second place finish in Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Kimi Raikkonen has said that he is disappointed at losing out on a possible win at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Lotus finally showed its true potential on Sunday as Romain Grosjean and Raikkonen finished the race in 3rd and 2nd places respectively.
Raikkonen though feels that he had a good enough opportunity to record his first win of the season and since his comeback to the sport at the start of the 2012 season.
“I'm a bit disappointed not to win,” he told Sky Sports. “We had the speed today and I got one try to pass Sebastian, but I couldn't use it because I picked the wrong side to go down under braking and then my tyres dropped off. That was it. I pretty much
knew that was my only chance and unfortunately we didn't win, but I'm happy for the team to be second and third, which is very good.”
Raikkonen at one point in the race was within a second of Vettel but was not able to capitalise on the opportunity and the German denied him. Still Raikkonen has been praised over his comeback which former players are saying that has been a much better one
than of Michael Schumacher’s.
Schumacher is in his third year season since his comeback and has done little of notice so far. Raikkonen has shown that he has not lost any pace in the two years he has been away from the sport.
It was a display of pure skill and experience the way he overtook other drivers to move up to second place.
Even though Raikkonen feels disappointed at the result of the Bahrain GP, still he is confident of an improved performance from this race onwards as the season progresses.
“It's very nice for them [the team], but of course I wanted to win and I would have been much happier with myself if I had won. Nevertheless, the team showed what they've got and probably we can put ourselves more often in this position. We had the car to
be up there in the first three races, but we made small mistakes and that cost us too much,” he added.
It will be interesting to see how Lotus and Raikkonen fare in the next race that is three weeks away from now.
