Kimi Raikkonen expected to join Red Bull Racing team for 2012 Formula 1 season
Recent reports have revealed that the former Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen is expected to team up alongside the reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel in the Red Bull Racing team for the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Since Mark Webber is currently on a year-to-year contract with the team, it is believed that he might have to leave the team next year in order to make room for a faster driver in the championship winning team.
Red Bull Racing are currently leading the 2011 Formula 1 championship by a margin and since Sebastian Vettel is way ahead of his teammate in terms of points, the team is hoping of finding an equally competitive teammate in order to dominate the season completely.
Even though Christian Horner recently stated that he is not willing to manage two world champions in the team in 2012, it seems that Raikkonen is a potential competitor for the spot at the team and Horner admitted that he is one of the best out there.
Kimi on the other hand has constantly claimed that he does not want to be a part of Formula 1 anymore but still he has been linked with the sport many times. Even after Robert Kubica’s accident, he was linked with Lotus Renault GP as their potential driver.
Nevertheless, Webber has been performing pretty well since the past couple of races and Horner has admitted that negotiation regarding a potential 2012 deal is currently in progress with the Aussie driver.
The team was unable to secure a win at this past weekend’s British Grand Prix but since both of its drivers finished on the podium in 2nd and 3rd places, they were pretty happy with the overall result. The best thing about this result
was that both of the drivers were pretty much on the same page as Webber finished just inches behind the current championship leader.
RBR have not revealed anything officially yet but the team has stated that they are considering their ‘options’ before coming up with a final decision regarding this matter.
