Kimi Raikkonen feels hopeful about steering solution before Malaysian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen feels hopeful that his team has found the solution for the car’s steering issue well in time for 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix which will be held at Sepang International Circuit this weekend.
Raikkonen has made an inspiring comeback in F1 this season with Lotus. After qualifying for 17th position in the grid, he showed a great performance with his car in the season opener at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia during last week.
However, he had been quite discontented with the steering of E20 and called for a change of the steering column during the free practice session on last Friday. Moreover, he also faced problems with the steering during the last pre-season test held at Circuit
de Catalunya, Barcelona and expressed that it would be hard to find any solution for this issue.
Nonetheless, the Finnish driver expected that the team had found some possible solution for steering which they could give a look at, in the second GP.
“We have some things [to try],” Raikkonen is quoted by Autosport. “It is just a matter of getting it right. It is many things. It is not as I have been used to in the past, and it is not as perfect as it should be. The team is working hard since we knew
about the issue, but it is not the easiest thing to fix. But we have a new one to try and hopefully it will be OK.”
Furthermore, he asserted that he was delighted with the durable Pirelli tyres during the first race.
“The tyres were really good. I took it easy, and probably I expected to have more problems with them,” said Raikkonen.
Besides, he said that the performance of the car during the last week was encouraging and he related it with the levels of performance back in 2009. He added that the downforce was relatively same as it was three years ago while he said that handling was
even better than before.
He also said that the room for making the necessary improvements always remains there as no one can achieve perfection except trying for the best.
