Kimi Raikkonen feels satisfied with E21 after his first day of testing – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has expressed satisfaction after driving E21 on his first day at Jerez despite facing clutch issue.
Raikkonen replaced his teammate, Romain Grosjean on Thursday in Jerez test. However, he could not complete desired number of laps due to an issue in his car’s clutch. Furthermore, he remained busy in adjusting his seat the whole day.
Nevertheless, the Finnish driver has said that he is feeling satisfied with the overall development in their new car. Besides, he said that they are looking forward to make the most out of the remaining pre-season tests in order to make the essential developments
in their car to come up stronger right from the start of this season.
“It's okay but we still don't have all the parts that we need to run in the races and that we had last year,” he said. “It only can get better but it's not too bad. It's the first day and I'm trying to get back to the driving and I will just drive around
and get used to it. For sure it feels better than this time last year, I think we have a good car but how good it is in the end we will only see during the races and during the season.”
The 2007 world champion came back to the sport with the Enstone based team in 2012 after taking part in the World Rally Championship for two years. He performed amazingly well during the preceding season and managed to score competitive results for his team.
Moreover, he stood amongst one of the most consistent point scorers in the last season and successfully secured third place finish in the drivers’ championship. Besides, he remained behind his main rival, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and ahead of Lewis Hamilton
who drove for McLaren last year.
It will be important to mention that he struggled with his qualifying pace during the last season because of which he could not score competitive scores in quite a few races. Let’s see how he competes with his main rivals in this season and whether he will
be able to win the title or not.
