Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen is feeling satisfied with the contract extension at his current team for the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Raikkonen had been surrounded by many rumours that he may leave his present team at the end of this season. However, the Enstone based team has extended his contract for the coming year after the Indian Grand Prix and has discharged all the speculations.
The Finnish driver returned to F1 after taking part in the World Rally Championship during the last two years. He has performed quite convincingly in the season so far and has impressed everyone with his amazing pace.
Furthermore, he has developed a very good relationship with his team and has expressed that he is happy with the one-year contract extension. In addition, he said that he is going to try his best to come up even stronger in the coming year.
“It makes more easier for me and I don't see a reason why I should make a long-term contract you probably wouldn't make if you just want to make sure that you have somewhere to drive in the coming years,” he said. “I try to do well enough so I don't have to worry when it comes down to signing and I will have somewhere to race. For me it's easier like that; if you want to go somewhere and do something else it's less hassle and less problems.”
At present, he is standing at 3rd place in the drivers’ championship. Besides, he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and is behind his major opponent, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
Even though, the Finn is quite behind Sebastian Vettel of the Milton Keynes based team, who is presently leading the drivers’ standings, nevertheless, he is still eying to win the championship title as there are still four races left.
It will be important to mention that the British team has struggled due to its poor qualifying performance in the season until now. Therefore, the 2007 world champion has insisted that they really need to make the significant step-ups to improve their qualifying pace in order to attain promising results in the remainder of the season.
