Kimi Raikkonen hopes to perform well in the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that he is looking forward to perform well in the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix despite struggling with the new Pirelli tyres in the qualifying.
Raikkonen faced some difficulties with the 2012 structure of the tyres in the qualifying and could only secure 6th grid slot for the race. On the other hand, his teammate, Romain Grosjean performed really well and managed to secure third grid
position behind Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
The Finnish driver stated that he faced balancing issues with the new tyres which are quite brittle as compared to the compound which was being used in the previous year. Furthermore, he said that although they tried to make the necessary changes to improve
their qualifying pace after the practice sessions, they couldn’t achieve the desired result.
“I think it's a combination of the balance with new tyres, especially front tyres, they're a bit like last year and they're not as strong as ones we used to run so not ideal for me,” Raikkonen said.
“We'll try to work on that but in qualifying the car was not too bad, we should have run a bit more front wing and we should have been up there in front,” he said.
Nevertheless, he insisted that he is not feeling upset over his qualifying result and is positively eying to perform well in this weekend’s race. Furthermore, he said that he will try his best to gain positions in the beginning of the race to score good
points for his team.
"It's obviously not ideal place to start but we've seen in past years that if you can do a good race here you can make up a lot of places," he added.
Presently, the 2007 world champion is standing at third place in the drivers’ championship with 116 points. In addition, he is ahead of Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and behind his main rival, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Let’s see how he performs in the season
ahead and whether he will be able to win the title in this year’s championship fight or not.
