Kimi Raikkonen hopes to win Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that he is hoping to win the 2013 Chinese Grand Prix after delivering an amazing performance in the qualifying.
Raikkonen showed an incredible pace in the qualifying at Shanghai International Circuit and managed to secure second grid position for the race. Moreover, he remained ahead of Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and behind Lewis Hamilton who claimed his first ever
pole position with Mercedes.
Even though, he said that he was looking forward to claim the pole position but his gap to Hamilton was quite big. Nevertheless, he expressed that he is happy with his second grid position.
In addition, he asserted that they lacked downforce in the middle sector of the track due to which they could not maximise their potential in the qualifying. However, he said that they are targeting to perform well in the forthcoming race.
“We were second, it's not too bad. I think it's the best that I've been with the team ever so not too bad, but of course you'd rather be in first place,” Raikkonen said. “But like I said we don't have the speed; I think we're missing the downforce in the
middle sector a bit, so we'll see what we can do tomorrow.”
The Finn driver performed impressively well during the last season and remained the most consistent point scorer throughout the year. Besides, he took a great start to this season by claiming an inspiring victory in the Australian GP after taking a start
from 7th grid position. Afterwards, he performed convincingly well in the Malaysian GP and secured 7th place finish after setting off from 10th grid slot.
The 2007 world champion has said that they have got the potential to attain competitive points in the season ahead. Additionally, he stated that they are going to try their best to perform well in the third round and are hoping to challenge for the victory.
“Every day seems to be different this year' sometimes it goes your way and sometimes not. We can only try to do our best and hopefully we have speed enough to challenge for the win,” he added.
