Kimi Raikkonen hoping for luck at Nurburgring circuit – Formula 1 news
Kimi Raikkonen has claimed that he likes driving on the Nurburgring circuit, but luck has not favoured him on most of the occasions in Germany.
According to the Lotus driver, “I have always enjoyed driving in Germany, but the problem is that luck has never been on my side there and something has always happened to stop me winning. I’ve got four poles to show my speed on German soil, but six retirements
at this race haven’t been what I wanted.”
The 2007 world champion will definitely need some luck in Germany this time around. He was right on top of the points table at the start of the 2013 season, but started losing places with the passage of time. He stayed at number two after Red Bull’s Sebastian
Vettel started dominating the field.
However, that position was also taken away from him, as Fernando Alonso of Ferrari scored some solid points in the past couple of races.
Moreover, the rise of Mercedes has also been a problem for Raikkonen, as he has to cope with more drivers during race day. After the first few races of the season, it appeared that his main rivals will be Vettel and Alonso, but the situation has changed
now.
The Mercedes duo of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton has shown that they are dominant in terms of qualifying pace and their race performance is not bad either, especially after their private test in Barcelona.
Despite all the problems, Raikkonen is hopeful that he will manage to get a solid result in Germany. He added, “Last year we made the top three in Hockenheim, so let’s wait and see how it goes at the Nurburgring for the first time with this team. It should
suit us, but the fact is you need a really good car to be competitive there.”
The veteran driver went onto say that his team has not been much stronger on tracks, where the temperature is cooler. Therefore, he was hoping that the weather in Germany remains warm during the coming weekend. He reduced the gap to Vettel during the previous
race, but will need a victory to boost his chances in the championship.
