Kimi Raikkonen hoping for strong show in British GP – Formula 1 news
Kimi Raikkonen is optimistic that he will bounce back in the British GP after a couple of disappointing races in Monaco and Canada.
The Finn started off the season on a high, winning the Australian GP and it appeared that he would cause a lot of problems for his rivals. However, his form faded away with the passage of time and he has dropped to third in the Drivers’ Championship.
After the first five races of the season, Raikkonen looked to be in good shape and was not far behind the championship leader Sebastian Vettel. He needed a couple of solid performances in the next two rounds, but that did not happen for him and he could
hardly score points from those events.
Judging from that, the 2007 world champion might once again struggle in the upcoming race, but he thinks that the track characteristics will suit Lotus, thus he will have a chance of closing the gap to the top.
The veteran driver said, “Monaco and Montréal are both street circuits; they're quite different from a lot of tracks we visit and there are quite a lot of variables. You never know how you're going to go at those two tracks.”
He added, “Silverstone is a more normal circuit and we've been okay at every other permanent circuit so far this year. There's no reason why we shouldn't be back to the positions we should be with this package. We just have to be patient, do our very best
over the entire weekend and step-by-step we can start catching the leaders.”
Raikkonen went onto say that he has always enjoyed racing in Silverstone and has got very good memories from the track. He admitted that the layout is quite challenging for the drivers, but added that winning under difficult circumstances always gives pleasure
to him.
Last time when the 33-year-old won in Silverstone, he went onto become the world champion. He will be hoping for the same result this time around too, but things will not be easy for him. He will have to weather the storm from both the Red Bull and Ferrari
drivers, who will definitely come hard at their opponents.
