Kimi Raikkonen insists Lotus must perform well in qualifying of 2012 Italian GP – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that they must perform well in the qualifying of the 2012 Italian Grand Prix so as to secure higher grid slots for the race.
Raikkonen said that they are not the fastest team at Monza as they are facing some troubles with finding the right setup for their car while he said that they may struggle with their race pace.
Moreover, he said that their DRS device really helped him in securing an impressive third podium finish in the Belgian GP. He also said that their car was well suited for the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps but he is lacking confidence ahead of the Italian
GP as he believes that they will face problems on the track which demands lower-downforce configuration.
In addition, he said that they have been struggling with their qualifying pace since the beginning of the current season. Nevertheless, he said that they are keenly looking forward to secure a higher grid slot in the qualifying of the race ahead so as to
attain reasonable points.
"We are not fastest for sure here," Raikkonen said. "We did not expect to be fastest either. I think after the last race it was bit tricky so it wasn't too bad [today], but for sure it will be difficult to be really on top in qualifying. But we have to try
to do the best we can; I think it will be close. There's not many corners so there's not going to be big differences between teams, it will be very close on times so then we'll have to have a good qualifying to get quite high up."
Besides, he said that they have attained the advantage of the warm weather conditions in the season until now and are hoping to avail the opportunity in the forthcoming race too as the climate has been predicted to be hot and dry.
The Finnish driver has been deemed as a potential contender for this year’s championship title as he has performed tremendously well in the first twelve grands prix.
Above and beyond, it will be stimulating to see how he shows up in the approaching race.
