Kimi Raikkonen insists Lotus still need to make essential improvements – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has insisted that they still need to make some essential improvements in their car so as to fight for the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship.
Raikkonen said that he is still facing some issue in his car’s steering which has hindered his performance a little bit in the first half of the season. Moreover, he said that it is very important for them to make the considerable advancements in their car.
“It's not perfect, it's still not. It's improved a lot since we started but there's still a way to go. It's OK to race, it's not like it's somehow going to make me one second faster or half a second faster if we're going to get it exactly where we want but
I've driven the better ones and there's definitely still things we can improve and we're working for it but it's not the easiest thing to get right so we have to work on those and hopefully at some point we'll get it exactly as we want,” he said.
The Finnish driver is presently standing at 4th place in the drivers’ championship with 98 points. Besides, he is ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and is behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Furthermore, he has performed quite credibly in the season until now. Although, he has secured four podium finishes and two fifth positions, however, he has not been able to score a grand prix victory in the current season so far.
Nonetheless, he has recently expressed that they have got the potential to claim victories in the season ahead and said that he is very much pleased with the progress of his team.
The Enstone based team is currently at fourth place in the constructors’ rankings with 159 points. Additionally, they are ahead of Mercedes and are behind McLaren.
It is to be noted that they surely stand amongst one of the most competent teams in this year’s title fight and it will be extremely thrilling to see how they show up in the Hungarian GP which will be held at Hungaroring Circuit in Budapest.
