Kimi Raikkonen is still interested in rallying but only after F1 career ends – Formula 1 news
Kimi Raikkonen has said that he is keen to return to rallying after his Formula 1 career is over.
The Finn tagged his ambitions to return to rallying as “fun.” Raikkonen ended his Formula 1 career in 2009 to join rally racing. He did not have much success in the sport and after spending two years in the sport he decided to make a comeback to Formula
1.
Raikkonen joined Lotus for his comeback and has been quite successful since his return. He has been able to score five podium finishes in the season so far and is still looking good enough to be able to get a shot at his first Grand Prix win since his comeback.
The 32-year old has said that he does not plan to leave Formula 1 any time soon but whenever he ends his career he will look to join rally racing again.
“I will do it for fun,” Raikkonen told AUTOSPORT. “The one reason why I wanted to do it in the first place was to see if I can do it or not. I'm a big fan of it and I always thought it was so difficult that I wanted to see what happens. I still want to improve
in it and try to do well. It's something that, when I'm a bit older, I can do and have fun with. I will definitely do it when I have more time. I enjoy both [rallying and F1]. I would like to do both of them at the same time but because of timetables, schedules
and other reasons it's not possible.”
Raikkonen still remains in contention for the title win of the season and is gunning for an improved second half of the season after the summer break ends this weekend with the Belgian Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso is leading the standings with 164 points while the Finn has 116 points. Raikkonen cannot afford to lose any points if he is to challenge Alonso for the title. It will be interesting to see how Raikkonen fares when the season resumes after
the summer break.
