Kimi Raikkonen is surely a competent title contender – Formula 1
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen surely stands amongst one of the most competent title contenders in the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship as he has performed convincingly well in the season so far.
Raikkonen took part in the World Rally Championship during the last two years in which he could not perform well. Nonetheless, he made an impressive comeback in F1 with the Enstone based team this year and has delivered some remarkable performances in the
season until now.
Although, he has faced some immense difficulties with his qualifying pace in almost all the races in the season so far due to which he could not secure competitive grid slots. Nevertheless, he has still managed to secure commendable results and has been
considered as a potential candidate in this year’s title chase.
It will be important to mention that the team principal of Red Bull Racing, Christian Horner has called Raikkonen a major factor in this season’s title fight.
“They are a factor and their car has been quick all year,” Horner said. “They've got two good drivers and Kimi for sure is a factor in the drivers' championship, I think he's only one point behind Lewis. As I said from race two, it would be foolish to underestimate
any of our rivals at the moment.”
Furthermore, Stefano Domenicali, the team principal of Ferrari also admired the performance of the Finn and said that he has certainly got some amazing talent and driving skills. In addition, he said that the 32-year-old is undoubtedly one of the strongest
rivals in this year’s championship.
“I was not surprised by Kimi because I have always thought Kimi is a very good driver and a World Champion which you don't do unless you have something special,” Domenicali said. “They have had a good car since the beginning, so they could have more points.”
Additionally, it will be interesting to know that there have been a lot of speculations that the Italian has been seeing Raikkonen as a potential replacement of their driver, Felipe Massa who has struggled in most of the races in the season so far.
On the other hand, Domenicali has discharged all the rumours and has said that they are not paying any attention to the baseless reports while he asserted that they are looking forward to provide their struggling driver with everything which he may need
to improve his performance in the season ahead. However, the future of the Brazilian driver is still uncertain in the Italian team.
Besides, it is to be noted that the 2007 world champion can definitely perform even better if the British team improves its qualifying pace.
It will be exciting to see how the Finnish driver performs in the remainder of the season.
