Kimi Raikkonen looking forward to performing well in rest of 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that he is looking forward to perform well in the season ahead after facing difficulties in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on June 10.
Raikkonen could only secure 8th place finish in the last race after setting off from 12th grid position. Besides, he expressed that DRS did not provide the expected boost in the pace of E20 during the race because of which it became hard for him to make
further progress.
The Finnish driver was disappointed by his uncompetitive finish in Montreal as he believed that he could have scored more points in the race. Nevertheless, he said that they have still managed to score some reasonable points and are aiming to come up strong
in the forthcoming races.
“[Canada was] a bit frustrating overall as I think we could have achieved more from the weekend,” he said, “Still, we've gained more points for the championship which is the most important thing, so we'll move on and try to do better next time.”
In addition, the Finnish driver said that he could have attained more points if he had begun from higher grid position. Nonetheless, he said that he is very much pleased with the progress which the team has made and is hopeful for the upcoming season.
“Obviously, we had the hydraulic issue which meant the diff wasn't working properly in qualifying but, even without that, I think the higher temperatures helped us. I wasn't completely happy with it, but it was a big improvement and we've seen the car go
well at another different circuit, which is encouraging for the future,” he said.
It will be important to mention that Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has recently said that they are making their best efforts to solve the issues which Raikkonen faced during the Canadian GP.
Over and above, he said that they are trying their best to make the necessary improvements and the significant preparations so as to improve the pace of their car for the forthcoming races in order to fight for the championship title this year.
