2007 Formula 1 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen had to leave Formula 1 after his contract with Ferrari expired and the team decided to replace him with Fernando Alonso in 2010 after two disappointing seasons after his Championship
run.
The Finn driver decided to join Rally after he wasn’t offered a seat by rest of the front running teams in Formula 1. Kimi stated clearly that he will not drive in Formula 1 until or unless a promising team decides to sign him,
however, Raikkonen blocked his own chances of returning to the sport in 2011 after he ruled out the rumours that he was interested in joining Renault and accosted the team for approaching him in such an unprofessional manner.
In fact, it was quite immature of Kimi as he clearly stated and admitted that he tried to approach the team once and that his manager was also trying to secure him a seat in Formula 1 since his contract in WRC expired.
Kimi is currently in despair as he still has not been able to secure a seat in Rally and it seems that he is getting more desperate as each day passes. Kimi’s manager, Steve Robertson recently stated that the Finn driver hopes
to return to Formula 1 one day but not now.
However, Raikkonen stated that he does not hope to return to the sport anytime soon and was quite offended by what Renault said about him even though it was not a big deal.
“We have not talked with anyone in F1. Kimi hasn’t closed the door on it, you never say never in case the right offer comes along,” he told the Media.
There are many rumours that the 2007 World Champion might join Ford or MINI for next year but he is more likely to stay at Citroen, his current team.
“Of course you always want to decide your next plans sooner rather than later, but sometimes it’s just not possible. I hope we will know what direction we are going by the end of November,” said his manager.
