Kimi Raikkonen not a fan of the new simulator introduced by Lotus F1 – Formula 1 news
Lotus F1’s Kimi Raikkonen has stated that he is not the fan of the simulators and that the new one at the team’s Enstone factory is not going to change anything.
“I've never been a big fan of those and you never get as close to what real driving on the circuit is,” Raikkonen said. “We can probably do a lot of things to learn the circuits and stuff like that, but I don't think this is really going to change things.”
The Finnish driver also stated that the team will have to work together in order to be successful during the 2013 F1 season.
“It's the whole game together; there are a lot of people involved and you cannot make it happen by yourself,” he told. “It's just the team work and everybody trying to do the same thing and deliver the best that we can. I think it's been a good atmosphere
in the team.”
Lotus F1 has built the simulator in order to bring suitable competition against their rival F1 teams and was first used by Raikkonen’s teammate, Romain Grosjean, ahead of the United States Grand Prix which took place over the all new Circuit of the Americas
(COTA). Various F1 teams had practiced at the simulator to get some experience of the new track.
Raikkonen returned to F1 in 2012 after an absence of two seasons. He had remained under speculation for having lost interest in the sport. During his absence he took part in NASCAR and Rallying. At first he was being reported to return with Williams F1 but
he joined Lotus F1. The driver has returned with a very strong performance being very consistent throughout the season. His strongest point of the season was completing all the twenty races with scoring championship points in all of them but one. He also won
the Abu Dhabi GP bringing him a long awaited victory. He finished third in the drivers’ championship.
Lotus F1 has also improved its form with Raikkonen’s noticeable performance and Grosjean’s three podium finishes. They finished fourth in the constructors’ championship which is one up from 2011 F1 season.
