Kimi Raikkonen not getting carried away with victory - Formula 1 news
The Australian GP winner Kimi Raikkonen is not getting complacent despite starting off his 2013 campaign in a positive manner. Earlier, he had declared his victory
as one of the easiest in his Formula 1 career.
“It feels good but it's only after one race,” he said. “It doesn't really change our aim and how we approach this year. Definitely, we are happy with the win but
there is an awful lot to still to do to win the championship. We seemed to have a good car in Albert Park, so hopefully it works well in the next races also.”
The Finn made a comeback to the sport last year and impressed one and all with his consistency. After leaving Ferrari in 2009, he stayed away from Formula 1 for
a couple of years, but started missing the action. Therefore, he started negotiations with a couple of teams.
Earlier, it was speculated that the former world champion would make a comeback with Williams, but he thought Lotus were a much better option, as their car had
the speed to fight for victories.
The decision proved to be absolutely correct for Raikkonen, as he stayed in the championship hunt throughout the 2012 season. Although he managed to win just one
race, his performances were consistent enough to help him secure the third place in the season.
This year, Lotus have improved their pace and have offered an even better package to the 33-year-old, who showcased his form in the inaugural race of the ongoing
season.
However, the veteran driver feels that it is too early to make predictions about the future events, as conditions will be difficult everywhere.
He said, “It's probably going to rain again in Malaysia at some point but it will be a different circuit, different conditions. Our car worked well in Australia
and usually - at least last year - in hot conditions it's been good for us so hopefully it will turn out to be a good weekend.”
The Malaysian GP will be held on Sunday, March 24, which means that none of the teams will get a chance of brining in new updates.
