Kimi Raikkonen optimistic for a positive return to Formula 1 – Formula 1 news
Kimi Raikkonen said that the changes in regulations effective for the 2012 season are not going to impact on his competitiveness during his comeback season.
Raikkonen will be driving for Formula 1 after a banishment of two years. In the meantime, the Finn had been involved in rally racing although without much success.
Renault were integral in luring Raikkonen back to F1 as rumours had been running wild for his return but a deal was never made possible until Renault struck a deal with the former F1 champions management.
Raikkonen said that although there are a few regulation changes but they are not significant enough to impact on his driving and he will soon get used to it. He said that the pre-season test in early February 2012 will help him in getting the experience
he needs. He also plans to test a 2009 spec Renault in January.
“Although the technical regulations don't seem to change much, they apply to a lot of areas and quite a few elements will have to be re-designed,” Raikkonen told Renault's official website. “As a result, the cars will be significantly different next year.
The order could be shaken up, which will make things very interesting.”
“I am more motivated than ever and I don't think I've lost any speed. Getting on top of the tyres will be the hardest thing, of course, but I'm not really worried,” he further added.
Raikkonen also talked about the incident he had when he was crashed while racing a snow mobile. The Finn was shocked at the coverage the incident received from the media, and said that it was one of the most harmless crashes he has ever been involved in.
Raikkonen only bruised his wrist slightly but Renault was criticised for not managing their drivers properly due to the accident.
It will be interesting to see how fast Raikkonen adjusts to F1, as fans and followers of the sport alike await his return and are in no doubt of the talent he possesses. Motivation of the man has been questioned time and time again but only time will tell
how dedicated he really is.
