Kimi Raikkonen refuses to commit to Lotus for 2013 – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has refused to commit to his current team for 2013 before the conclusion of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Raikkonen has made a remarkable comeback in the sport after participating in the World Rally Championship where he could not perform well. Nevertheless, he has performed amazingly well in the current season with the Enstone based team and has secured inspiring five podium finishes.
Although, he is enjoying an amazing fifth place in the drivers’ championship and has a successful season until now, however, he is not committing to Lotus for the next year and has asserted that he wants to keep his focus on the remaining grands prix so as to fight for the title.
“We have to look at this year first, and I want to do as well as we can at every race,” Raikkonen said. “You can do well in one year, but we've seen even in the biggest teams that they can have a hard time the next year. You'd think we should only get better and better but you never know. It's not easy to make a fast car and sometimes the small details can either go your way or go against you.”
Even though, he has been considered as one of the most competent drivers in the field but he has not been able to claim a race victory. Therefore, he expressed that all he is aiming right now is to perform at his best in the remaining nine races in order to win the championship title.
“We're putting our efforts into this year and try to improve in the second half,” he added.
In addition, he said that their utmost emphasise is on bringing the necessary improvements in their qualifying pace so as to take a competitive start in the races ahead.
Besides, he said that he has no doubts over the abilities of his team and admired the efforts of all the staff in developing the car E20 which is capable of winning the championship battle.
Above and beyond, he asserted that he is confidently targeting to score points with consistency in the approaching races.
