Kimi Raikkonen rues his grid position in Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen says that he could have achieved better result in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix, held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10, if he had started from a better grid position.
Raikkonen qualified for 12th place in the grid and secured 8th position in the last race. However, the Finnish driver confidently said that he could have scored more points if he would have set off from higher grid slot.
Moreover, he said that DRS didn’t provide the expected boost up in the pace due to which it was hard to make further progress.
“I seemed to get stuck behind people a few times. The DRS zone is not very long, and it's still a difficult battle if the car ahead of you is also using the DRS. We had a chance to do a bit better, but it didn't quite all come together today. We scored points
again so that's always a good thing, especially this season. Qualifying yesterday wasn't perfect so obviously that left us with more work to do. If you start further forward it's easier to finish higher up the order. We'll try to achieve that in the next race,”
he said.
At present, he is standing at 6th position in the drivers’ championship with 55 points. Besides, he is just 2 points ahead of his teammate, Romain Grosjean and 12 points behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
On the other hand, Grosjean secured an impressive second podium finish in Montreal after setting off from 7th grid position.
The French driver has performed convincingly in the season so far. Even though, he has retired in three of the first seven races. Nevertheless, he is currently at 7th place in the drivers’ rankings with 53 points and is 8 points ahead of Jenson Button of
McLaren.
Meanwhile, the British team is presently at third place in the constructors’ championship with 108 points. Additionally, they are 11 points ahead of Ferrari and 25 points behind McLaren.
It will be important to mention that they have emerged as one of the most competent contenders in the season until now and are trying their best to make the substantial preparations to fight for this year’s championship title.
