Kimi Raikkonen says Lotus lacked pace in 2012 Korean Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that they lacked pace in the 2012 Korean Grand Prix due to which they could not attain competitive result at Korea International Circuit.
Raikkonen could only secure 5th place finish in the preceding race and was quite upset over his result. Moreover, he said that even though he tried his best to secure a podium finish but his car was not competent enough to challenge the major
rivals in the front which include the Ferrari drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa and Red Bull Racing drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
“I think this was about where we should have been,” he said. “The yellow flags at the start didn't help when we were fighting with Felipe [Massa] but even so we didn't quite have the speed to match the Red Bulls and Ferraris.”
Furthermore, he said that they lost some crucial time behind Lewis Hamilton of McLaren because of their new exhaust layout which they couldn’t optimise during the race. Nevertheless, he said that they are not feeling disappointed about their new update and
trying to learn from their mistakes so as to come up stronger in the remainder of the season.
“We also lost quite a bit of time behind Lewis [Hamilton] - mainly because the new exhaust system means you lose a little bit of power so it was hard to get past - but with a few more practice sessions I'm sure we'll learn a lot more to be able to improve
it,” the Finn added.
At present, the Finnish driver is standing at third place in the drivers’ championship. Moreover, he is ahead of Hamilton and is behind Alonso who is no more at the top of the drivers’ rankings as the defending champion has taken the lead over him after
claiming his third consecutive victory in the last race.
Although, he is quite behind the leading driver, nonetheless, he is positively looking forward to close the gap in the forthcoming races and is still optimistic about the title.
Let’s see how the 2007 world champion performs in the Indian GP.
