Kimi Raikkonen says Lotus will not use double DRS in 2012 Japanese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that they have decided not to use their new double DRS device in the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix as it failed to provide the desired results after testing in the Friday practice.
The Enstone based team first came up with their new device for the first time in the practice session of the Belgian GP but they haven’t used it since then as they believe that there is still a lot of work to be done on the design so as to get the most out
of it.
Even though, they planned to take the advantage of their double DRS at Suzuka, however, Raikkonen thinks that they are not yet ready to run it at this point in time.
The Finnish driver struggled throughout the free practice and could not set a good laptime as he faced problems in his car’s front wing.
“It worked a little bit but we're not going to run it,” he confirmed. “Plus we had some other issue during the running so it probably didn't help to get best out of it. But it's not going to make us really near the front if it would work 100%.”
Nevertheless, he said that they are not feeling disappointed over the issues and are making efforts to learn from their mistakes in order to make necessary advancement in the future.
Presently, he is standing at third place in the drivers’ rankings. Besides, he is ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and is behind his main rival, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Though, he is quite behind the current leader in the drivers’ championship, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Nonetheless, the 2007 world champion has said that he is confidently looking forward to narrow the gap to driver in the front in the remainder of the
season.
“Hopefully we can score more points than Fernando. Even if we lose a place to Lewis it makes no difference, we just have to try to gain on front and go from there. At the next race we should have more new parts and we can aim for the bigger results,” he
added.
