Kimi Raikkonen says he did not cry on not taking part in Mugello test – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that since they have not tested any major updates, therefore, he didn’t cry on not taking part in Mugello test.
After the limited first day running due to rain, it was decided that Romain Grosjean will replace Raikkonen and will test run the car for the last two days in order to make the best use of the remaining time. However, the Finnish driver expressed that he
is not concerned with the decision as there were no major upgrades which they needed to evaluate.
“We didn't have any major new parts to test and we don't race at Mugello so I was not crying when it was decided that I wouldn't test,” he added. “I know the track well but there was no need for me to drive. I am here to race and that is what I will do in
Barcelona.”
The 2007 world champion took his retirement from F1 two years ago and participated in World Rally Championship. He returned to the sport this year with Lotus team and has performed quite convincingly in the season so far.
In addition, he said that he is feeling good in E20 until now. He also said that he is aiming to win the races while he said that they have a very competitive car in this season.
“I am here to race and I race to win. That is the target for me and the team. We want to win grands prix. We have a good car and we saw in Bahrain it is good enough to win. That's the target,” said Raikkonen.
Lotus team has emerged as one of the most competent teams in this season after their successful pre-season testing programme. At present, they are standing at third place in the constructors’ championship with 57 points ahead of Scuderia-Ferrari.
It will be important to mention that the team principal of Lotus, Eric Boullier asserted during the start of the season that they should not be considered a second class team anymore as they have the potential to fight for the championship title and to stand
along the top contenders.
