Kimi Raikkonen says he has two options for 2014 – Formula 1 news
Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen has revealed that he has got two options available for the Formula 1 2014 season despite having a contract with his current team for the next season.
When asked about the available options for him next year, the veteran driver said, “I would say that I have two, but in F1 you can never know exactly. At the moment I have a contract for next year. However, until now there has not been a lot of contact,
we’ve just talked a bit of this and that. I’ll take my decision at the appropriate time.”
The Iceman made a comeback to Formula 1 last year after a two year absence from the sport. Earlier, he was in talks with Williams, but saw a better opportunity at Lotus, so decided to move with the latter in the end.
Luckily, the decision proved to be a good one for the former world champion, who managed to finish third in the Drivers’ Championship in 2012. Despite that, he was not satisfied, as he only succeeded in one race and wanted to achieve a lot more than that.
This year though, Raikkonen has a very good chance of winning the championship, as he has got a stronger car compared to the previous season. He has been scoring some solid points since the very first race in Australia and is currently four points behind
the championship leader Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull.
However, there is a speculation that he will not be a part of Lotus by the end of this year and will replace Vettel’s team-mate Mark Webber, who is expected to quit Formula 1 after the ongoing season.
When asked about his possible move to Red Bull, Raikkonen stated, “I haven’t made plans, I never do. If tomorrow I were to realise that I’m not enjoying it, I would leave immediately. But I know that there comes a time in life when you want to do something
else, because when you’re in F1 you have to devote almost all the time you have.”
It is believed that both Vettel and Raikkonen are very good friends and have no issues working together, but only time will tell whether their partnership can be fruitful for the reigning champions.
